Manchester United's newest signing left the international side following their victory over the Republic Of Ireland last week in order to get prepared for his eagerly-anticipated second debut for the Red Devils which he hopes will come against Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Ronaldo trained with Man United on Tuesday afternoon and left his international teammates to contend with Azerbaijan.
Thankfully for Portugal, they had more than enough quality to overcome the threat.
Fernando Santos' side secured a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Azerbaijan to strengthen their hopes of progressing from World Cup qualifying Group A.
It was Manchester City's Bernardo Silva who opened the scoring for Portugal on 26 minutes after a wonderful ball from deep by Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes.
Andre Silva then doubled their lead just five minutes later to put Portugal firmly in front, before Liverpool forward Diogo Jota wrapped up the win with 15 minutes to spare.
Jota enjoyed a decent start to the season with Liverpool after scoring two goals in his first two appearances this season after being preferred to Roberto Firmino by Jurgen Klopp.
The Brazilian reclaimed the starting spot against Chelsea last week, however after suffering an injury against the Blues it means that Jota could be afforded another opportunity as Liverpool take on Leeds United this weekend.
After his goalscoring display against Azerbaijan confidence will no doubt be high if his services are called upon.
