David de Gea 's reign as Manchester United 's first-choice goalkeeper could be drawing to a close with the arrival of new interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
That is according to former England internationalTrevor Sinclair, who thinks De Gea's playing style may not suit the kind of tactical philosophy Rangnick is trying to implement.
De Gea was in the middle of one of the most bizarre goals witnessed in modern Premier League history on Thursday night, when Emile Smith Rowe 's effort bounced past him as he lay stricken with injury and his back to the game.
However, De Gea was nursing a knock actually given to him accidently by his own teammate after Fred trod on the shot-stopper's ankles from an Arsenal corner.

Referee Martin Atkinson had blown his whistle for play to be halted, but his efforts came too late as Smith Rowe's strike had already crossed the line to put the Gunners in front.
After a VAR review determined that De Gea had actually sustained the injury off of an incident with his own teammate, Atkinson had little choice but to allow the goal.
Thankfully for De Gea, the incident did not come back to haunt him after a Bruno Fernandes strike followed by a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo ensured United came away from the contest with all three points.
Sinclair, however, was damning in his assessment of De Gea's part to play in the situation, accusing the 'keeper of 'lacking bravery'.
"They got it right," Sinclair told talkSPORT of the decision to allow Smith Rowe's goal to stand.
"We've all been smashed in the ankle, it's not going to get any worse.
"You can get back to your feet, wait for the ball to go out of play, then get the assistance you need medically.
"I can't believe how lacking in bravery De Gea is. I'm really disappointed, his teammates will be disappointed, the coaching staff and all the fans will be disappointed.
"Sometimes when you go on the pitch, you've got to take a bit of pain - and that wasn't good enough.
"And he's cost his team a goal because the shot from Smith Rowe wasn't great."
The former West Ham and Man City star then went on to cast doubt over De Gea's long-term future at the club, claiming: "With Ralf [Rangnick] coming in, wanting to play a high line, I think he's going to have to be sweeper keeper.
"So De Gea's time at Man United is probably going to end quite shortly."
Rangnick takes charge of United for the first time on Sunday when his side welcome the visit of Crystal Palace to Old Trafford.
