Crystal Palace have announced the squad for their pre-season tour of Asia and Australia - and it does not include the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Marc Guehi.
Patrick Viera's side will make the trip to Singapore to take on Liverpool this Friday in what is the Eagles' third pre-season friendly after their 5-4 win over Millwall and 1-1 draw against Accrington Stanley. They will then face Manchester United in Melbourne on July 19, before playing Leeds United in Perth three days' later.
However, there are a number of notable absentees for the trip. Zaha and Guehi will not travel with the rest of the squad, while Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise, Cheikhou Kouyate, Christian Benteke and Will Hughes are amongst those left in South London for a domestic training and games programme led by assistant manager Osian Roberts. New signings Sam Johnstone and Cheick Doucouré will also stay in England.
Palace state that the reason behind these omissions is that a selection are not currently fit, while others do not meet entry requirements of going into the two countries. "Some of these players are not currently fit and therefore will not travel on tour, whilst some did not meet the entry requirements for Singapore or Australia when travel arrangements were made," the club said.
One match has already been confirmed for this group of players as they take on QPR on 23rd July with up to two more matches to be announced in the coming days. This means Eze will be returning to his former club for the first time since leaving The R's this time last summer.
Zaha has been Palace's most consistent performer over the past couple of seasons but had his most prolific campaign last time out, having netted 15 goals in 37 matches. Guehi was also impressive and earned himself a call-up to the England squad for their March friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.
Meanwhile, there are 10 first-team members heading out to Singapore, with Vicente Guaita, Tyrick Mitchell, Odsonne Eduoard and Jean Phillipe-Mateta amongst the travelling contingent. There is just one recognised senior midfielder in the squad, though, in the name of Luka Milivojevic, meaning a number of youngsters will be handed an opportunity to impress against Premier League opposition.
Malcolm Ebiowei joined in the summer from Derby County and he could be someone who gets a chance, while Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who shone towards the back end of last season, can force himself into Viera's plans. Liverpool and United have named fully strength squads for their tour and expect to be tricky tests for the Eagles.
