Club president takes team off in protest in more chaotic scenes at Turkish match

The Turkish Super Lig is at the centre of another refereeing storm as Istanbulspor's president called the team off the pitch in protest during the game.

With their clash against Trabzonspor locked at 1-1, Istanbulspor were denied a penalty after Florian Loshaj went down under Batista Mendy's challenge.

To rub salt in Istanbulspor's wounds, the away side went 2-1 up as they went up the other end and scored through former Southampton striker Paul Onuachu.

Istanbulspor president, Faik Sarialioglu, then took the wild step of taking the players off the pitch in the 73rd minute.

Istanbulspor loanee Simon Deli was seen on his knees appearing to plead with Sarialioglu to not take the team off.

This comes after Turkish football was thrown into chaos after Ankaragucu president, Faruk Koca, punched a referee in the face. Koca has since resigned from his role after being arrested.

Football in Turkey was suspended in the immediate aftermath of the assault on official Halil Umut Meler with the Super Lig making a return on Tuesday, but this latest incident could plunge it into chaos once again.

As well as resigning from his role, Koca has been handed a permanent ban by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF).

The TFF also ordered Ankaragucu to pay a two million lira (£54,000) fine as well as making them play five home matches without fans.
