Chelsea owner Todd Boehly 'got James Corden's opinion' before appointing Frank Lampard

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly's decision to bring back Frank Lampard was reportedly aided by a surprise source - James Corden.

Lampard returned for his second spell as Blues boss in a shock move after the firing of Graham Potter.

Things didn't get off to the best of starts in Lampard's first game back with a stunning strike from Matheus Nunes making sure the match ended 1-0 to Wolves.

There was plenty of surprise that the club legend was brought back, having gone trophyless in his previous 18 months as Chelsea manager.

In the aftermath of Potter's sacking, a string of Europe's elite were linked to the post, most prominently ex-Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann, and treble-winning Barcelona manager Luis Enrique.

However, Lampard was given the reins until the end of the season, with Chelsea's hopes of a top four finish all but over.

And, according to a report in The Sun, Boehly got some help from an unlikely source.

Boehly, Chelsea's co-owner, also has business interests in the entertainment industry, where he has reportedly become friends with Gavin and Stacey star and late night talk show host James Corden.

Corden, who regularly appears on his sports comedy show, A League of Their Own, was reportedly consulted by the American businessman.

Outside of the hit Sky quiz show, Corden is a well known West Ham fan and regularly crosses over to sports, seeing an iconic speech to the England squad during Comic Relief.
