talkSPORT recently revealed that Everton submitted a £12million bid to bring the 27-year-old to Goodison Park.
And we told you how the Saints had knocked back their proposal on Saturday morning, though the Toffees remain keen to secure his services.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, he was named in the starting XI at Home Park, where he popped up with a winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Russell Martin's side took the lead just after the break through Nathan Tella, before Ryan Hardie hit back immediately after.
It looked as though the points would be shared, only for Adams to tap home from close range after reacting quickest to Conor Hazard's brilliant save from an Adam Armstrong header.

"Excellent header down towards the corner of the net and Hazard makes another outstanding save.
"But it's just the positional sense of his partner up there, Che Adams, on the spot.

"He knows he's scored before he's actually put it into the net such is the ease of the finish and his proximity to the goal.
"It's a comfortable finish for him and Southampton look like they're going to snatch all three points."
Adams now has three goals in as many Championship games this season, but could be set for an instant return to the Premier League after Southampton's relegation.
Commenting on his future to Sky Sports after the win at Plymouth, the Scotland international said: "I'm just enjoying my football at the minute and scoring goals.
"That's the most important thing and hopefully it continues."
