Brazilian PL players cleared to play this weekend as FIFA makes decision

The Brazilian Football Confederation dropped its demands for world football's governing body to enforce rules relating to their non-appearance for international duty.

It's understood that Brazil and Chile have agreed to waive the rule preventing players from playing for five days if they fail to report for international duty, following extensive talks between FIFA and the relevant associations.

Premier League clubs made a collective decision not to release players for duty if it meant them travelling to red-list countries as they would face ten days of quarantine on their return.

Mexico had earlier withdrawn their complaint, freeing Wolves forward Raul Jimenez, while Newcastle boss Steve Bruce revealed on Friday that an agreement had been reached meaning that Paraguay midfielder Miguel Almiron could travel to Manchester United.

The resolution was reached late on Friday night, little more than 12 hours before the weekend's fixtures kick off.

It was revealed on Wednesday that FIFA had invoked Article 5 to block Premier League clubs from selecting players who they had refused to release for the latest international break on request of the Brazilian Football Federation.

However, following extensive talks with FIFA, the Football Association and the Premier League, the associations of Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Paraguay agreed to waive the automatic five-day restriction they had the option of imposing.

Thomas Tuchel, who now has the option of picking Thiago Silva for Chelsea's GameDay clash at home to Aston Villa, suggested that if the issue arises again in future international breaks FIFA should consider switching the venues of matches to avoid quarantines.

"Personally, I think it could be a solution maybe to move games from red listed to green listed countries," Tuchel said. "Like we did with the Champions League."
