If there was a Goalkeeper of the Season award to play for, Sommer would be a leading contender. The Gladbach No.1 sits second league wide for most saves after six rounds of fixtures (38) - half of which he made in a record-breaking display to ensure a share of the spoils against defending champions Bayern Munich on Matchday 4. The Foals had the Switzerland international to thank once more last time out as he repelled high-flying Freiburg time and again in a goalless draw. Eighth-placed Gladbach have now lost just once under Daniel Farke - 1-0 at home to Mainz on Matchday 5 - but are without a win in three. Defender Ko Itakura, midfielder Florian Neuhaus and forward Alassane Plea are still missing, so Marvin Friedrich, deadline-day signing Julian Weigl and club captain Lars Stindl should retain their places in the starting line-up.
Following the dismissal of Domenico Tedesco, Leipzig kicked off the Marco Rose era with an impressive 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund. The ex-Gladbach coach was unfortunate not to add Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid to his list of conquests in the UEFA Champions League in midweek after a spirited team performance in the Spanish capital was undone by two late Real goals. With Konrad Laimer back on the sidelines, Amadou Haidara was preferred to Kevin Kampl in central midfield. Mohamed Simakan and Emil Forsberg also got the respective nods over right-back Benjamin Henrichs and central striker Andre Silva for the second game in a row, while Werner put in one of his best displays since returning to the club. Minimal rotation, if any, is expected as mid-table Leipzig go in search of a third league win of the campaign.
