Back-to-back 2-0 victories have gotten Gladbach moving in the right direction, with the Foals now having a seven-point jump on the promotion/relegation playoff place. Alassane Plea has provided the attacking spark in recent weeks and has scored in each of his last three matches, while Ginter & Co. have been excellent in earning successive clean sheets. Yann Sommer is fit and ready to play in goal, but Marcus Thuram has an adductor problem. Luca Netz provided assists in each of the wins over Hertha Berlin and Bochum, but he was only in individual training this week and - like Jonas Hofmann - won't be ready in time. Netz's absence could mean Ramy Bensebaini switches to the left and Jordan Beyer comes in at centre-half, where Marvin Friedrich also remains sidelined.
Mainz are four points better off than Gladbach and, with a game in hand, could climb as high as seventh if they pick up all three points in the weekend's final game. Bo Svensson's side made light work of Arminia Bielefeld 4-0 to send them into the international break buoyant, with Jonathan Burkardt's double his first Bundesliga goals since Matchday 14. Stach missed the win over Bielefeld through suspension but, off the back of a memorable week in which he made his Germany debut, the 23-year-old should return to the 05ers' midfield. Leandro Barreiro, who started Matchday 27 on the bench, could also return to the starting line up, with Dominik Kohr suspended.
Match stats
Hofmann scored three goals in 10 appearances for Mainz in 2014/15. He's registered 30 goals and 36 assists in 175 games as a Gladbach player.
Plea has had a direct hand in six of Gladbach's last eight Bundesliga goals (three of his own, plus three assists).
Gladbach have won two successive league games under Hütter for only the second time. Three would be a first.
Burkardt is the second highest scoring German in this season's Bundesliga (nine), one behind Bayern Munich's Serge Gnabry, and one ahead of Hofmann.
League-wide, Mainz are third best for home form (30 points), but second worst on the road (seven points).
Svensson will take charge of Mainz for the 50th time in all competitions. He boasts a better points-per-game average in all competitions (1.55) than revered predecessors Jürgen Klopp (1.51) and Thomas Tuchel (1.43).
