Haaland has gone five games without scoring since his return from injury at the start of March. The Norwegian's last goal came as Dortmund edged Hoffenheim 3-2 at the end of January, but his drought hasn't halted BVB's progress. A 2-0 win at VfB Stuttgart last week put a 4-1 loss at home to RB Leipzig behind them and leaves Die Schwarzgelben nine points adrift of Bayern Munich with five games to play - including Der Klassiker in Munich next week. BVB will also join Bayern in next season's UEFA Champions League group stage if they better fifth-placed Freiburg's result against Bochum. Injuries in defence, with no fit right-back and Mats Hummels also sidelined, mean Emre Can should continue at full-back. Gio Reyna will also play no further part this season after picking up a hamstring injury just six minutes into the Stuttgart game. Julian Brandt came on and scored both goals and will surely start, but left-back Raphael Guerreiro is definitely out. The fit-again Nico Schulz should deputise.
Kruse got his third goal since his January return to Wolfsburg as he rounded off their comprehensive 4-0 victory at home to Arminia Bielefeld last matchday. It moved the Wolves up to 13th, eight points clear of Bielefeld and Hertha Berlin in the play-off spot and drop zone respectively. Lukas Nmecha got two of the goals to take his Bundesliga tally for 2021/22 to eight in 20 games. Yannick Gerhardt was the provider for both of those strikes, and the all-rounder should keep his place at left wing-back ahead of Jerome Roussillon despite the Frenchman's return to the squad last time out. American teenager Kevin Paredes was handed his debut for the club with a four-minute cameo as a replacement for Maximilian Arnold against Bielefeld. Although coach Florian Kohfeldt has said he is not a candidate to start yet, he does intend to give the 18-year-old more playing time in the closing weeks of the season.
Match stats
Although averaging a league goal every 92 minutes this season - and every 88 over his Bundesliga career - Haaland is on his longest scoring drought in Germany (384 minutes).
Former Wolfsburg man Brandt's brace last matchday took him to seven goals for the season. A league-high five of those have come from counter-attacks.
Borussia have lost three of their last five competitive matches at Signal Iduna Park.
Kruse has five goals and six assists in his last 15 Bundesliga games against Dortmund. He also scored against them for Union Berlin this season.
Since beating BVB 3-1 in the 2014/15 DFB Cup final, Wolfsburg have failed to win against Borussia in 13 meetings (D1, L12) and failed to score on their last five visitors to Dortmund.
The Wolves are the bottom of the league standings for shot efficiency this season. In contrast, BVB are top.
