Haaland is yet to find the net in his three appearances since returning to fitness but Dortmund have collected two wins and a draw in that time so it has been a productive period for the collective. In fact, Marco Rose's side have lost only once since the turn of the year and start the weekend just six points off leaders Bayern Munich. Aiding the cause most in recent weeks has been Marius Wolf, who scored in the 1-1 draw with Cologne last time out and also hit the winner against Arminia Bielefeld on Matchday 26. He should continue on the right wing, with captain Marco Reus on the opposite side in support of Donyell Malen, if Haaland misses out due to an ankle injury he picked up while on international duty. Gio Reyna lasted 90 minutes for the first time this season in the Cologne draw but will only get back from US international duty late on Thursday, so Mo Dahoud could feature in central midfield alongside Jude Bellingham and Axel Witsel.
Leipzig have also lost just once in 2022 - a 3-2 defeat to Bayern - and have turned their season around under Domenico Tedesco. They now sit fourth - just three behind Bayer Leverkusen in third - and are well set to secure a UEFA Champions League spot for next season. Central to everything good at Leipzig this term has been Nkunku, who is fourth on the top-scorer list - one goal back from Haaland who has 16 - and is third league-wide for assists with nine. He scored one and laid on another in his team's 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture and, fresh from making his long-overdue France debut last Friday, he will lead the line once again this weekend. Andre Silva should keep him company in attack, with Dani Olmo in support. Midfielder Amadou Haidara will be out for several weeks, however, after suffering knee ligament damage as Mali missed out on a World Cup place. Yussuf Poulsen also picked up an injury while with Denmark and will miss at least this game, while goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi is a doubt after returning early from international duty with Hungary.
Match stats
Haaland has scored braces in each of his three competitive meetings with Leipzig to date.
Reus is poised to make his 350th appearance for Dortmund. He has registered 153 goals and 108 assists across his first 349.
Only Bayern have picked up more points at home this season (34) than Dortmund (33).
Since opening his account for the Bundesliga season on Matchday 6, Nkunku has only failed to score, assist or both - as he did in the reverse fixture - in seven of 22 games.
Tyler Adams has made 95 competitive appearances for Leipzig - 20 more than US teammate Reyna has for BVB.
Leipzig failed to win away from home in the Bundesliga under Jesse Marsch, but have lost just one of six on the road - to Bayern - since Tedesco came in.
