Jude Bellingham, Mats Hummels and Emre Can showed there are goals to be taken without Haaland leading the Dortmund line, and coach Marco Rose will be hoping they can once again fill in for the Norwegian in front of goal when Ingolstadt roll into town for the second round of the DFB Cup. The trio were a perhaps unlikely source of Dortmund's goals in a 3-1 win over Arminia Bielefeld at the weekend, but with Haaland set to miss several weeks of action, Rose needs the rest of his squad to chip in with goals, and that invitation could be extended to several fringe players in midweek, with one eye on key Bundesliga fixtures with Cologne and RB Leipzig and a crucial UEFA Champions League clash with Ajax next week. Marwin Hitz is set to start between the posts after first-choice Gregor Kobel took a knock at the weekend, while Steffen Tigges could lead the attack after starting in the holders' first-round win over Wehen Wiesbaden, allowing Donyell Malen a breather.
Ingolstadt are rooted to the foot of Bundesliga 2 with just one win all season - a 2-0 triumph at Sandhausen back in August. The weekend's 1-0 defeat at Erzgebirge Aue has made it clear to coach Andre Schubert - who replaced Roberto Pätzold a month ago - that avoiding the drop is his number one priority, but there are some positives in Upper Bavaria, namely a 7-0 friendly win over Nuremberg during the last international break which allowed Schubert to take a look at 19 members of his squad over 45 minutes. That did not include Yassin Ben Balla, Nassim Boujellab or Canadian midfielder Caniggia Elva, though, with the trio ruled out injured, although three-goal joint top-scorer Fatih Kaya could earn only his second start of the season, after springing from the bench for 11 of his previous 12 outings.
Match stats
Haaland has scored 13 of Dortmund's 31 competitive goals in 2021/22, including all three against Wiesbaden in the first round.
Bellingham became the youngest goalscorer in DFB Cup history in last season's first round, aged 17 years, two months and 16 days. It was his first of six goals in 59 competitive games for BVB. He beat Gio Reyna's record by six days.
BVB won their fifth DFB Cup last season. They have not been eliminated by lower-league opposition since losing a penalty shoot-out to Kickers Offenbach in the 2010/11 second round.
Fabian Buntic has conceded a league-high 25 goals so far this Bundesliga 2 season, but ranks fourth for saves made (36).
Filip Bilbija, Kaya and Stefan Kutschke have each scored a team-leading two goals so far this season in the league.
Ingolstadt have never beaten Dortmund in competitive fare (D1, L3).
