First-choice goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and ex-Bayern defender Mats Hummels are also due back as Dortmund chase the win that would send them top of the table, for 24 hours at least.

Bayern are level on points with Dortmund after eight rounds of fixtures, albeit with a vastly superior goal difference. After a four-match winless run, including a first defeat of the season to Augsburg, the defending champions unloaded on Bayer Leverkusen, hitting four goals without reply. Mane, five-goal top scorer Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane were all on target, and were at their devilish best once again in the Champions League on Tuesday as Bayern thrashed Viktoria Plzen 5-0. Mane scored one and made another, while Musiala set up the first of two exquisite Sane goals. With lingering question-marks over midfielder Joshua Kimmich and forward Thomas Müller - who both missed the Plzen rout - Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry should continue in the starting XI. Benjamin Pavard and Marcel Sabitzer are expected to be recalled at the expense of Noussair Mazraoui and Ryan Gravenberch, meanwhile, in Julian Nagelsmann's only projected changes to the team that made it a Champions League record 31 group matches without loss.

Dortmund have let in just one goal in 512 minutes with Hummels on the pitch, but one every 23 minutes without him, winning all six league games the former Bayern defender has started - including four to nil.

BVB have lost their last eight competitive meetings with Bayern, but never suffered nine straight defeats to one team.

Mane has scored three of his four Bundesliga goals away from home.
