Bellingham played every minute of the opening 15 games of the Bundesliga season for Dortmund before heading to Qatar where he started all of England's games - netting his first senior international goal - before the Three Lions were knocked out by eventual runners-up France in the quarter-finals. The 19-year-old had forgotten his passport when he turned up to fly to Dortmund's winter training camp in Marbella, but did eventually make the plane with the rest of Edin Terzic's squad, and featured in the first half of Tuesday's 5-1 friendly defeat of Fortuna Düsseldorf. Sebastien Haller made his long-awaited first appearance in a Dortmund shirt in that game, and the summer arrival from Ajax is likely to feature again.
Hitz will know everything there is to know about Dortmund, since the 35-year-old spent 14 seasons playing in Germany before returning to his homeland in the summer. The goalkeeper has been a regular this term for Basel, who lie fifth in the Swiss Super League ahead of the second half of the campaign. He is far from the only familiar face. Basel head coach Alexander Frei - who was appointed to the role in July - scored 37 goals in 83 games for Dortmund between 2006 and 2009, while 19-year-old attacker Bradley Fink spent three years with BVB's academy before returning to his native country last August. Last week, Spanish attacking midfielder Hugo Novoa signed a contract extension with RB Leipzig immediately before joining Basel on an 18-month loan deal that is designed to ensure the 19-year-old gets more playing time. Striker Jean-Kevin Augustin had a spell with Leipzig between 2017 and 2020, while veteran former Hungary captain Adam Szalai (Mainz, Schalke, Hoffenheim, Hannover) is another player with a wealth of Bundesliga experience. Michael Lang (Borussia Mönchengladbach, Werder Bremen) and Anton Kade (Hertha Berlin) have also featured in the German top flight recently.
