Bochum actually have the historical edge in this fixture, with 23 wins to Frankfurt's 22 in their 60 previous meetings - making the Eagles one of only four Bundesliga clubs against whom Bochum have a positive record. Their last win dates back to 2009, but they will have hope of adding to their tally on Sunday. They are only one place and a single point behind their stumbling opponents in the Bundesliga table following a 1-0 win over Greuther Fürth last time out that came courtesy of captain Anthony Losilla, who struck late for his first top-flight goal. Should Bochum win, it would be the first time since early 2010 they have managed to string together back-to-back Bundesliga victories, but coach Thomas Reis is without a clutch of potential first-teamers: last season's player of the year Robert Tesche, Simon Zoller, Herbert Bockhorn and Maxim Leitsch. Wingers Danny Blum - who has made substitute appearances in the last three league games - and Takuma Asano are in line to start.
Frankfurt have had a topsy-turvy season so far, to say the least. They were beaten 5-2 by Borussia Dortmund on the opening weekend, then played out five straight draws, including four by a 1-1 scoreline. Their only win came on Matchday 7, but it was a considerable scalp: leaders Bayern Munich, who hadn't lost under Julian Nagelsmann or been beaten in the Bundesliga at the Allianz Arena since November 2019 until the Eagles prevailed 2-1. However, Oliver Glasner's men were unable to build on that superb victory last weekend, going down 2-1 at home to Hertha Berlin. As a consequence, a team who have finished in the top half over the past four seasons find themselves down in 14th place, and closer to the relegation zone than the European places. Kostic and Jens Petter Hauge are the only players in the squad to have scored more than once in the Bundesliga, although the Norwegian could be among the substitutes again as Glasner continues to search for the winning formula. Goncalo Paciencia is in line to start after scoring against Hertha, with Borre and Daichi Kamada also set to get the nod after their UEFA Europa League goals during the week, and Erik Durm fully fit again after concussion.
