Bochum's dismal away form continued last time out as they were brushed aside by Borussia Dortmund - their fifth successive defeat on the road. Their home record may well prove the club's saviour, with their previous three outings at the Ruhrstadion contributing all of their points in 2022/23 thus far thanks to a draw with Cologne and wins over Eintracht Frankfurt and Union Berlin. The two Philipps - Messrs Förster and Hofmann - have posed the greatest threat going forward and will surely continue to lead the team forward for the visit of Gladbach. Their importance has increased while Takuma Asano remains out through injury but there is hope that Lys Mousset will soon be fit enough to make his debut for the club, albeit this week's game may come too soon for the Frenchman.
The Foals sit on the edges of Europe after beating VfB Stuttgart 3-1 at the weekend thanks to goals from Thuram, Patrick Herrmann and Jonas Hofmann. That ended a run of three games without a Bundesliga win for Daniel Farke's team, who will hope that this is the week they chalk up a first victory of the season away from home. Thuram should continue to lead the line in Bochum, with Hofmann, Christoph Kramer and Alassane Plea in support. Further back, however, they remain without the services of Sommer, meaning Tobias Sippel will remain in goal for a fourth match on the spin. Alongside him in the treatment room are Ko Itakura, Florian Neuhaus and Hannes Wolf - an injury list that hasn't made life easy for Farke recently.
