Eintracht were superb in the first leg and Ansgar Knauff's superb strike just after the break had them in front until Ferran Torres' equaliser. After that Die Adler still had chances to win it and it was only the sending off of Tuta with just over 10 minutes to play that saw the Spaniards start to excerpt the greater control. Tuta will miss the trip to the Camp Nou as a result of his red card, with 38-year-old Japan international Makoto Hasebe expected to come into a three-man defence alongside Martin Hinteregger and Evan Ndicka. That should be the only change to the starting XI that took to the field in last week's tie, although Christopher Lenz could return to the matchday squad after injury. Defeat to UEFA Champions League chasing Freiburg at the weekend wasn't ideal preparation but Frankfurt will have been pleased to see Filip Kostic on a Bundesliga scoresheet for the first time since Matchday 12.
Barcelona's lengthy injury list could well play into Frankfurt's hands, with Gerard Pique the latest to go down with a knock and forced to hobble off at the Deutsche Bank Park after just 23 minutes. While former Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen was kept busy at one end, Borussia Dortmund old boy Aubameyang had a quiet first leg thanks to the excellence of Hinteregger & Co. Ousmane Dembele - another ex-Dortmund man - started the first leg on the bench but could replace Adama Traore on the right of the Barca attack. The second leg hosts lost 3-0 both home and away to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League earlier in the season and their recent record is poor against sides from the German top-flight.
Match stats
Borre has a team-leading eight goals in all competitions in 2021/22, but Daichi Kamada is Frankfurt's best in the Europa League (four goals).
Kostic is the 2021/22 Europa League's joint leading assist provider, with four.
Only Merih Demiral (57, Atalanta) and Connor Goldson (65, Glasgow Rangers) have recovered more balls than Frankfurt defender Ndicka (55) in this season's competition.
Frankfurt's overall record against Spanish opposition has them very much on top: P11, W5, D4, L2.
Barcelona are winless in their last four meetings with Bundesliga clubs (D1 L3), and have won only one of their previous six (D2, L3).
Aubameyang and Dembele were former teammates of Frankfurt's Sebastian Rode.
