Barcelona v Bayern commentary: Big guns clash for first time since 8-2 stunner

talksport.com, 13 September 2021, 12:49
European giants will face-off in the first round of the Champions League group stage fixtures as Bayern Munich travel to Barcelona.

Barcelona are set to begin their European journey without star man Lionel Messi, who scored 120 UCL goals prior to his summer move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Bayern Munich will head into this clash with huge confidence and memories of their remarkable 8-2 win over Barca in their last clash in 2019/20 Champions League quarter-finals.

Philippe Coutinho scored two in the drubbing while on loan at Bayern from Barcelona but will be on the opposite side on Tuesday evening.

Barcelona are without a Champions League title since the 2014/15 season and will be looking for redemption for that shocking loss to the German giants.

Barcelona v Bayern Munich: Date and kick-off time

This Champions League clash is due to take place on Tuesday, September 14 at the Camp Nou.

Kick-off is set for 8pm UK time.

Barcelona v Bayern Munich: Team news

Barcelona will be hoping for their star striker Memphis Depay to start as he's scored twice already this season.

Ronald Koeman won't be able to call upon Sergio Aguero as he is out with a calf injury.

Barcelona's injury troubles don't end there, with Ousmane Dembele, Martin Braithwaite and Ansu Fati all out with knee injuries.

Sergino Dest is also doubtful after picking up a knock playing for the USA while on international duty.

Bayern Munich on the other hand, have less injury troubles and shouldn't have any new absentees for this incredible European clash.

Kingsley Coman and Corentin Tolisso didn't play on Saturday against RB Leipzig and are both unlikely to start due to calf issues.

Serge Gnabry should start despite being subbed off at half-time on the weekend.

Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich are also set to start and both love a goal against the hosts.
