Coutinho, who joined from Liverpool for £120m in 2018, has made just two La Liga appearances for the Blaugrana so far this season, starting in a draw with Granada and coming off the bench as they were held to a stalemate by Cadiz last time out.
With manager Ronald Koeman deploying teenagers Yusuf Demir and Gavi over the 29-year-old, reports are emerging that the Catalan giants are keen to quickly be rid of the Brazilian as they look to continue cutting costs.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, the Blaugrana will offer the midfielder out at a cut-price fee in January, as he does not fit into the Dutch manager's plans going forward.
Since his arrival, Coutinho has hit 23 goals and provided 14 assists in 93 appearances for Barca, but enjoyed some of his best form following the move in a loan spell at Bayern Munich in the 2019-20 season, as he registered 11 goals and nine assists, including a brace against his parent club in an 8-2 thrashing of Barcelona in the Champions League.
