Augsburg vs. Freiburg: probable line-ups, match stats and LIVE blog!

bundesliga.com, 19 February 2022, 10:10
USMNT striker Ricardo Pepi is pushing to start up front for Augsburg against Freiburg on Saturday (kick-off: 3.30pm CET).
Latest

Having missed the Matchday 21 win over Union Berlin through injury, Pepi is yet to taste victory in an Augsburg jersey and is still searching a first goal for the club since joining in January. The young American striker was a second-half substitute for Florian Niederlechner in the 3-2 loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach last time out, which leaves Augsburg firmly in the trenches of a relegation battle with just one win from their last seven games. Like Pepi, Alfred Finnbogason came off the bench against the Foals and the Iceland international scored his side's late second. Both will be pushing for starts in place of Michael Gregoritsch and Niederlechner.

Freiburg missed the chance to claim fourth-place for their own - with a two point buffer - by sharing a 1-1 draw with Mainz last weekend. Instead, RB Leipzig occupy fourth, but the Black Forest club remain level on points with Die Roten Bullen, albeit two places further back in what is becoming a hotly-contested European race. Like Finnbogason, veteran striker Nils Petersen climbed from the bench to score against Mainz to grab his side a valuable point and Christian Streich will also have a decision to make in attack. Lucas Höler and Jeong Woo-yeong led the line on MD21, with Petersen and Ermedin Demirovic making cases to feature from the off. Yannick Keitel is Streich's only injury absentee.

Match stats

Pepi has registered five goal attempts in 198 minutes of Bundesliga football, landing three on target.

After going 28 Bundesliga appearances without a goal, Gregoritsch has scored five in his last 10.

Augsburg are unbeaten in their last five Bundesliga matches with fans in attendance (W4, D1).

Grifo - Freiburg's joint best for goals this term with four - has scored just once across his last 12 league appearances.

Streich made his Bundesliga debut as a coach in a 1-0 win over Augsburg. This will be his 310th top-flight game in charge of Freiburg, and 380th in all competitions.

Freiburg are winless in their last three away games, but unbeaten in their last previous Bundesliga matches at Augsburg (W3, D3).
