Gikiewicz was kept busy on his return to former club Union Berlin on Wednesday, but the Pole would have been happy enough with the outcome after Augsburg twice came from behind to draw 2-2. A point away to the second best team in the league put an end to a two-game losing streak for Enrico Maaßen's charges, but it also means they have gone seven games without a win in all competitions. Florian Niederlechner will be brimming with confidence after his two goals against Union, but Mergim Berisha is a doubt after going off injured in the first half. Finnish attacker Fredrik Jensen replaced him so could be in line for a seventh start of the campaign. There could also be more minutes for Reece Oxford after he made his return from a lengthy injury layoff.

Bochum start the weekend just above Schalke but they are only five points behind 14th-placed Augsburg following a hard-fought 2-1 victory at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Tuesday. Goals from Christopher Antwi-Adjei and Philipp Hofmann inside the first 12 minutes gave Bochum only their third win of the campaign, with all three of them coming during Thomas Letsch's seven games in charge so far. Goalkeeper Manuel Riemann tweaked his ankle against Gladbach while centre-back Ivan Ordets and attacker Simon Zoller also picked up knocks, but all three are expected to be fit for the weekend. Takuma Asano and Erhan Masovic have both returned to training but Letsch said on Thursday that he would have to decide if it makes sense to include them in the squad for the final match before the World Cup break.

Match stats

Gikiewicz has two clean sheets in his 10 league matches so far this season. The 35-year-old shut out Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich in two 1-0 wins.

Augsburg have won only one of their seven home matches this season in the Bundesliga - against Bayern on Matchday 7.

This season marks only the third time these two teams have been in the same division. In four previous league meetings in the top flight and in Bundesliga 2, the respective home team has never won this fixture.

Bochum have lost all seven of their Bundesliga away matches this season. They have scored four goals and conceded 22 on their travels.

Goalkeeper Riemann scored the winning spot-kick when these two sides met in the second round of the DFB Cup last year.

Augsburg's Elvis Rexhbecaj played in 32 Bundesliga matches for Bochum last season on loan from Wolfsburg. He started in a 3-2 win for the visitors in this fixture last December.
