Aston Villa target Moreno out of Betis squad as Emery looks to bolster defence

The 29-year-old is one of the best uncapped left-backs in LaLiga, and has been lauded by Spaniard Emery due to his defensive discipline and attacking prowess.

Talks between Villa and Betis are ongoing, with the Spanish side already looking at potential replacements.

Moreno was recently left out of Betis' 4-1 victory over Ibiza in the Copa del Rey, with fans fearing he is set for Villa Park.

The player was set to join Nottingham Forest in the summer, only to reject the Tricky Trees' advances in the 11th hour, meaning Forest turned to Atletico Madrid's Renan Lodi instead.

Moreno, who won the Spanish Cup with Betis last campaign, is understood to be keen on working with Emery.

The former Barcelona youth player has made 121 appearances for Betis in all competitions since signing from Rayo Vallecano for £6million in 2019 on a five-year-deal.

Villa are currently well-stocked in the left-back position with Lucas Digne, Ashley Young and Ludwig Augustinsson all options.

The latter joined the Villains on-loan from Sevilla, but has failed to impress so far, and is expected to head back to Spain at the end of the season.

Emery is also understood to be prepared to let Danny Ings leave the club on a permanent basis.

Everton recently seen a loan offer rejected for the 30-year-old, but Ings is attracting interest from several other Premier League clubs.

Villa are also set to listen to offers for the out-of-favour Morgan Sanson, and Philippe Coutinho, who has recently been linked with a move to Corinthians in his native Brazil.
