Carlo Ancelotti has taken several backroom members with him from Everton to Real Madrid to further rub salt in the wound.
Los Blancos president Florentino Perez turned to the Italian to replace Zinedine Zidane, who resigned last week.
There had been some top candidates mentioned as potential successors, including Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte.
But Real moved to secure the services of Ancelotti quickly, who had managed the club from 2013 to 2015, much to the detriment of Everton.
And though the Toffees may have resigned themselves to the fact that they will not be able to stand in the Italian's way, they will surely be less than pleased after he took a number of staff members with him.
According to the Liverpool Echo, six backroom staff have joined the 61-year-old at the Bernabeu from the Merseyside club.
His son, Davide, as well as Francesco Mauri, Luca Guerra, Simeone Montanaro, Manuel Morabito and Mino Fulco will all go with him to the Spanish capital.
Many of them had worked with Ancelotti during his first stint at Real Madrid.
Davide had worked alongside Duncan Ferguson, who is not leaving, as one of Ancelotti's assistant managers at Everton.
The former Chelsea and AC Milan manager leaves the Toffees in a pickle but a number of potential successors have been mooted already.
Eddie Howe and Graham Potter have both been mooted for the role.
Who should be the next Everton manager? Comment below.
Ancelotti has signed a three-year contract at Real Madrid after departing Everton after just 18 months.
The Goodison Park outfit were praised for their ambition after landing the Champions League-winning manager.
But after a bright start to the season, Ancelotti's pedigree did not translate to results with the club finishing 10th in the Premier League this year.
He said: "I have complete respect for everyone associated with Everton and hope they can achieve the exciting opportunities they have in front of them.
"While I have enjoyed being at Everton I have been presented with an unexpected opportunity which I believe is the right move for me and my family at this time."
