David Alaba has turned down Bayern Munich's latest contract extension offer. With his current deal coming to an end next June, the Bavarians offered him a salary of 11 million euros per year.
However, according to the German newspaper Bild, Alaba decided against putting pen to paper. A possible reason for turning down the offer could be the potential interest of the two LaLiga Santander powerhouses Real Madrid and Barcelona.
With Marcelo entering the final stretch of his illustrious career at Los Blancos, Madrid would consider replacing him with the 28-year-old full-back who can also play at centre-back.
Meanwhile, Junior Firpo's unconvincing performances along with Jordi Alba's below-par displays in the last few seasons, have urged Barcelona to look for a left-back. Alaba's potential signing would strengthen the team's defence and would be a great addition to Ronald Koeman's squad.
With Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci in their mid-thirties, Juventus would also be interested in acquiring the services of the Austrian defender. The Old Lady already began renovating their backline with signing of Matthijs de Ligt last summer.
It remains to be seen which club can lure one of the most sought-after defenders in European football, as Alaba is currently in the peak of his career. At the age of 28, he put together an excellent 2019/20 season to help Bayern Munich lift the Champions League, the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal.
Last summer they also beat Borussia Dortmund to lift the DFL-Supercup and Sevilla to clinch the UEFA Super Cup at the Puskas Arena in Budapest. They are now one title away from matching Barcelona's feat from 2009 when they won six titles in a year under Manchester City's current coach Pep Guardiola.
