Akinfenwa hilariously corrects Laura Woods over FIFA rating then drops WWE hint

The 40-year-old ex-striker, who is a hugely popular figure both inside and outside of football, hung up his boots following the end of last term as his former club Wycombe Wanderers missed out on promotion to the Championship against Sunderland.

Introducing their special guest on talkSPORT Breakfast, host Laura Woods said: "After 21 years in professional football Adebayo Akinfenwa's career has come to an end.

"The Beast scored a total of 206 goals in 695 career matches, won two play-off matches, both very memorable ones, played up and down the English football pyramid, had a stint on Barry Island, had a stint in Lithuania and was the strongest player on FIFA for nine-straight years."

To which Akinfenwa replied: "It was ten actually, ten. They messed up on one of them!"

In a scoring system ranked out of 99, the striker had a strength rating of 97, making his nickname of 'the beast' even more appropriate.

Akinfenwa's lovable personality means that he's not going to be short of career options after bringing his 21-year playing career to an end.

While admitting that the world is his oyster, the ex-striker opened up on speculation regarding a career in WWE wrestling, something that Akinfenwa says he'd be open to providing that certain aesthetic alternations could be made.

Asked about his plans post-retirement, Akinfenwa said: "Do you know what the maddest thing is? I'll say it because I'm so blessed.

"I know so many players who are retired and with football that's our identity and when we stop football it's hard.

"I'm lucky enough that since I retired my phone hasn't stopped ringing and it's a blessing.

"I've said this numerous times, I am going to try as many different things as possible, just because football is institutionalised, we've done the same thing for 22 years and I'm in a position now where there's doors.

"So by the grace of God, the doors will continue to be there, be open and I'll try these different things.

"LW [Laura Woods] said about the wrestling, that's an option.

"I don't know, I'll have to try and change the spandex things, though, maybe try and get some packs because I ain't got any at the moment!

"We've got to see what happens, so watch this space."
