5 talking points as Ben White makes return to Arsenal action in AC Milan victory

ARSENAL 2-1 AC MILAN: Premier League leaders Arsenal made it back-to-back victories during their mid-season tour with a hard-fought success against Italian giants AC Milan in Dubai

Arsenal made it two friendly wins out of two in Dubai as they dismissed of reigning Italian champions AC Milan 2-1 on Tuesday.

After easing past French side Lyon last time out, the Gunners faced another tough assignment in the Middle East. They enjoyed a bright opening period and found themselves two goals two the good after the break as captain Martin Odegaard opened the scoring with an excellent free-kick.

Academy product Reiss Nelson then doubled the advantage with a deflected effort. Former Chelsea star Fikayo Tomori halved the deficit for Milan late on but Arsenal held on to secure victory. They secured a further point on penalties with Karl Hein saving ex-Man City and Real Madrid starlet Brahim Diaz's effort before Rade Krunic fired wide.

Here are the main talking points from Arsenal's friendly win:

White makes return to Arsenal action

After being forced to pull out of the England squad during the Three Lions' World Cup campaign, defender Ben White linked back up with his club teammates earlier this week in Dubai. Taking to Twitter, he seemed to indicate his excitement at linking up with the Gunners once more - and that is no surprise considering his form for the North Londoners this season.

Mikel Arteta afforded White 45 minutes of action upon his return having deployed him at right-back - a position he has played regularly this term. It was a relatively steady performance from the former Brighton man before he was replaced at half-time by Cedric Soares.

White will certainly hope to keep blowing the cobwebs off in next week's friendly with Juventus having not played a minute for England.

Odegaard displays set-piece prowess

The Gunners enjoyed an extremely bright start at the Al-Maktoum Stadium and a huge reason behind that was Norwegian playmaker Odegaard. The midfielder performed excellently throughout the evening and was at the heart of most of their attacks.

His creativity and quick feet manufactured him plenty of room in the heart of midfield but it was from a set piece situation where Odegaard was the most threatening. Having scored a memorable free-kick against Burnley just weeks after penning a permanent deal at the Emirates Stadium, he repeated the trick against Milan.

His left-footed effort curled over the Italian side's wall and left Ciprian Tătărușanu stranded. Arteta will certainly be aiming to call on that potent weapon slightly more regularly as competitive action returns.

Nelson continues hot form

Having appeared to have little to no future in North London, Nelson has done very well to force himself back into Arsenal contention. The Gunners' academy product netted two goals in a 5-0 thumping of Nottingham Forest at the end of October on what was his first league start of the season.

He was also on hand to latch onto a Fabio Vieira centre in Dubai to double the lead from a deflected effort. Other than his goal, the 23-year-old looked in a very confident mood throughout the game.

It remains to be seen if indeed Nelson has a long-term future as an Arsenal regular but getting himself in good form before the Premier League's restart will only serve to stand him in good stead.

Arsenal complete in-person scouting mission

Previously an Arsenal youth player, Algerian midfielder Ismael Bennacer has recently been linked with a return to the Emirates Stadium with Arteta keen to bolster his midfield options. If indeed the Gunners consider him as a valuable option, the North Londoners were given the perfect opportunity to see how he performed.

The 25-year-old was introduced as a second-half substitute and whilst he only had limited time to make an impression, he looked impressive. His anticipation of danger, as well as his eye for a pass, were both certainly noticeable in his brief cameo - both strengths that could come in hugely useful for Arsenal should they elect to make a move.

Tomori fires late message

Potentially unfortunate to have missed out on the England squad for the World Cup, ex-Chelsea man Tomori had the perfect response with the Three Lions now out of the tournament. He has regularly been one of the best defenders in Serie A over the past few seasons and put in another impressive performance in Dubai.

He also found himself on the scoresheet late on having nodded home from Sandro Tonali's free-kick when unchallenged. Having been a product of the Blues' youth system, his goal against the Gunners will no doubt have been satisfying - regardless of it coming in a friendly.
