The World Cup and double Champions League winning Andrea Pirlo sent a message to Phillips' Leeds United teammate Jack Harrison whom he played with during their time at New York City FC.
The Leeds academy product has risen through the club's ranks since making his competitive debut in 2014.
To date nothing will have made him more proud than pulling on that England shirt during Euro 2020.
With that said, a video message from the man himself to the 'Yorkshire Pirlo' would have been beyond his wildest dreams but was something that he received.
Harrison sent over the video to Phillips who was left gobsmacked when he first saw it.
"Good luck in the final and all the best." Pirlo's said in the video message.
As many would expect, Phillips' reaction was one of amazement.
"Oh my God. I thought he was going to say something about Italy but no, he wished me well. Full respect for that.
"I've seen that he's very cool, but I've heard he's a nice guy as well.
"To have someone on the other side wish you well and especially a player like that… it's a great feeling."
Undoubtedly Phillips has a long way to go before he achieves anywhere near the same Pirlo did, but given the praise he received after the final from the Italian legend, he could be well on his way.
"There's the boy at Leeds who's a bit of a regista", that term refers to the type of player that Pirlo was, a deep lying playmaker who can dictate the pace of the game.
