Unhappy Jose Mourinho at odds with Roma captain despite return to winning ways

The self-proclaimed Special One is having a difficult time during his second spell in Serie A with AS Roma, with the mood around the club quickly souring after his bright start

Jose Mourinho's trademark self-destruction tactic of falling out with seemingly everyone around him seems to be coming around quicker and quicker as his career goes on.

Now at the helm of Italian giants Roma, Mourinho's attitude to some quarters of the dressing room appears to already be rearing its ugly head amid a recent downturn in results.

The Giallorossi got back to winning ways on Monday night in Serie A, having lost their previous two league matches, with a comfortable 2-0 win over a Spezia side spearheaded by Thiago Motta, who previously starred under Mourinho at Inter Milan.

But after the game, Bryan Cristante became the latest name to publicly disagree with his manager.

Assessing the game, the stand-in skipper said: "We must also look at the positive things, we entered with the right approach," Cristante told Sky Sport Italia after the match.

"We dominated more or less the whole game. We could have scored more goals, we had a good match."

Cristante claimed Mourinho's men are still in with a fighting chance for a top-four finish.

"There's a possibility, we are seven or eight teams who are fighting for it," he added. "It's difficult. We have two targets: the Conference League and fourth place. We must try to reach them."

Cristante was significantly more upbeat post-match than his manager however, who conceded he was not a fan of the performance put on by his side.

"I like the result, not the game. It was not a difficult match, starting from the first half, we gave away and lost a lot of easy balls," he claimed.

"We never had good ball circulation. At that moment it was not difficult to play against Spezia. After the 2-0, I also liked the effort of Ibanez, who remained on the pitch with some difficulties.

"I had a feeling the game wasn't over. After Smalling came off, everything changes, because [Bryan] Cristante took his place. The team let the opponent enter the match."

Earlier this month, Mourinho failed to hide his displeasure as he chased referee Luca Pairetto down the tunnel after a 1-0 defeat by Bologna, incensed with some of the officiating that meant two of his players in Tammy Abraham and Rick Karsdorp would be suspended for the following game against Inter Milan.

Coming up against his old side, Mourinho's will to win was evident - though it ultimately did not help, as a passionate Mourinho could only watch on as his team were taken to the sword, beaten 3-0 by the reigning Serie A champions.

His post-march remarks were trademark Mourinho, initially refusing to take questions, snapping at journalists: "Your job is a lot easier than ours which is why we earn a lot more than you."

He then went on to heap praise on his old side, while bemoaning the options he had with his current one: "Inter are objectively better than us. This became an extremely difficult match tonight because of absentees."
