El Salvador are set to host the United States men's national team on Thursday for the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers in a game where the visitors will seek to extend their undefeated record at the Estadio Cuscatlan.
In fact, El Salvador have never beaten the USMNT at the aforementioned ground, where they have experienced two draws and one defeat in the last three games against the US.
The first time they faced each other in a knockout match at the Cuscatlan was on June 29, 1997, when Roy Lassiter's goal gave the Americans a 1-1 draw in the 1998 World Cup Qualifiers.
Seven years later, the USMNT beat El Salvador 2-0 in the 2006 World Cup Qualifiers thanks to goals from Brian McBride and Eddie Johnson on October 9, 2004.
El Salvador came close to grabbing their first-ever win against the USMNT on March, 2009, in the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers, but the hosts failed to hold onto a 2-0 lead in the final stretch of the game, as Jozy Altidore and Frankie Hejduk netted one each to help the visitors snatch a 2-2 draw.
