Tottenham Hotspur's forgotten man Jack Clarke could be set for a much-needed change of scenery in January.
The 20-year-old was signed by Spurs for a fee estimated to be as high as £10million in the summer of 2019.
He arrived from Leeds United with a big reputation but was immediately loaned back to the West Yorkshire club to further his development.
But his career has stalled ever since the move was sanctioned, with Clarke going out on loan on a further two occasions. He had temporary spells at both QPR and Stoke City.
Clarke is under transfer until 2023 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but has never made a Premier League appearance for the club. He has not even been included in a matchday squad for a league game.
Will Clarke ever make the grade at Tottenham? Let us know in the comments section below
Jack Clarke has never made a matchday Premier League squad for Tottenham
In fact, he's only ever made four senior appearances for the London side. Two of those were in the Europa League and one in the FA Cup last season.
His only other outing came at the start of this campaign when he came on as a half-time substitute in the Europa Conference League defeat at Pacos Ferreira.
Now, it's been reported that he could be set for yet another move to the Championship.
TEAMtalk report that Derby County, Millwall, Barnsley and Luton are all interested in signing the youngster when the transfer window re-opens in January.
The arrival of new Spurs' boss Antonio Conte is unlikely to see Clarke suddenly brought into the senior fold. He has been playing for the club's under-23s this season but will surely be keen to move elsewhere in the New Year, either on loan again or perhaps permanently.
Former Spurs defender Alan Hutton believes Clarke needs to move on and get regular game time.
"It's a shame because I think he's a very good player," he told Football Insider.
"He's still young and at a big club so there's a lot of pressure there. He has played in the Europa Conference League, but it hasn't quite worked for him and I think he needs to be playing regularly to see the best from him.
"He's a flying winger who likes to take people on and if you're low on confidence you can shy away from doing that.
"He has to go somewhere and play football."
Clarke made 14 appearances for Stoke on loan before injury cut his spell short
Clarke's spell at Stoke was cut short due to injury but Potters' boss Michael O'Neill did hint at potentially revisiting a deal for the player this term.
Speaking back in March, O'Neill said: "We've been pleased with what Jack's contribution has been. There are areas he has to improve on still but he's a very talented young player.
"In terms of being out on loan, he's played more minutes than he has on previous loans so he's still adapting a little bit.
"But he's a young player we're looking at between now and the end of the season to have an impact because you'd like to think that was a situation we could revisit next year on a longer-term basis."
