The Arsenal players made available for sale to fund the arrival of Ben White

Arsenal will make Brighton defender Ben White their third arrival of the summer transfer window in a £50million deal but will now have to sell multiple squad players to balance their books

Arsenal have been busy in the summer transfer market thus far and are closing in on their first keynote signing of the summer.

Portuguese full-back Nuno Tavares and Belgian midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga have both bolstered the ranks of Mikel Arteta's squad, with the club splashing out £22million to secure the duo.

The Gunners are now closing in on the signing of Brighton defender Ben White for a reported £50million, while the club are also hopeful of signing goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United.

Transfer fees will need to be raised in order to fund these moves and there are no shortage of players at the Emirates who could make way for the club to balance the books.

David Luiz has left the club while Matteo Guendouzi and William Saliba have departed on loan deals with the loans of Dani Ceballos, Mathew Ryan and Martin Odegaard all expiring.

Here are seven players that could be sold by the club this summer to help finance their incomings.

Granit Xhaka

Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka has clocked up 220 first-team appearances for Arsenal since joining from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016.

He has endured ups and downs throughout his spell at the club, most notable in 2019 when he was stripped of the club's captaincy - months after his appointment - following his reaction to angered fans following being substituted off against Crystal Palace in a Premier League encounter at the Emirates.

Xhaka has won two FA Cups at the club and has steered cleared of injuries throughout his time in North London but looks set to be on the move this summer.

Jose Mourinho is keen to take him to Roma this summer and a transfer would free up a significant wage at Arsenal with the club also likely to replenish their transfer funds.

Alexandre Lacazette

As with Xhaka, there is little doubt that Alexandre Lacazette would still be able to make a positive contribution at Arsenal but his wage and calibre of suitors mean he may be moved on.

A keynote signing in the summer of 2017 from Lyon, Lacazette has netted a respectable 65 goals across his four seasons at the Emirates but - as with Xhaka - there is a feeling that he fell just short of being the player to elevate the club to the next level.

Lacazette's presence was swiftly outdone by the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang six months after his arrival and despite his consistency, the Frenchman has rarely been seen as an indispensable asset.

The striker had previously agreed personal terms to join Atletico Madrid prior to the Spanish club's transfer ban in the summer of 2017 being upheld by FIFA, opening up his move to the Gunners.

Atleti are linked once again with a move for the 30-year-old, although the fee is likely to be just a fraction of the £46.5million the Gunners paid four years ago.

Willian

Brazilian forward Willian arrived at Arsenal on a three-year deal from Chelsea last summer, but he has been unable to bring across the form he showed at Stamford Bridge.

Despite arriving as a free agent, it is estimated that the Gunners are paying out more than £7million per season on wages towards the former Shakhtar Donestk star.

His one goal this season came in a routine end-of-season win at home to West Brom and he has struggled to adapt to his new side.

There were suggestions this summer that Willian could make the move to a MLS side but his wage demands may prove problematic.

Arsenal may be prepared to sanction his exit for a minimal fee - if for any transfer value at all - if it could free-up space on their wage bill.

Hector Bellerin

Another long-serving player who joined the first-team squad under Arsene Wenger and who has captained the club, Hector Bellerin is likely to move on this summer.

The Spaniard has had his career disrupted by injury issues in recent years to curtail his development and is likely to command interest from clubs in La Liga and Serie A.

As with others, his wages are likely to be an issue and could help push down a transfer fee - with a loan exit with an obligation to buy one such exit route under consideration.

Bellerin has already stated his intentions of trying a new challenge this summer and the club are likely to help facilitate an exit due to the mutual respect for the player.

Which players should Arsenal sell this summer? Comment below

Sead Kolasinac

Bosnian full-back Sead Kolasinac has entirely fallen out of favour at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta and spent the second half of last season on loan at Schalke.

Amassing over 100 appearances across his first three seasons at the Gunners, his playing time significantly reduced following the arrival of Kieran Tierney, while Nuno Tavares has also joined the club.

The club would be delighted to receive a fee for Kolasinac this summer as their squad reshape continues.

Lucas Torreira

Another player who has returned to Arsenal following a loan spell, Lucas Torreira is unlikely to be involved in Arsenal's first-team again.

An arrival from Sampdoria in the summer Unai Emery was appointed, the Uruguayan featured 89 times across two seasons but failed to continue his progress from his stint in Serie A.

The combative midfielder spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid but played just a bit-part role as the club won the title in Spain and he has since returned to North London.

Both Mikel Arteta and the player have since spoken that an exit is likely this summer, although Torreira's hopes of joining Boca Juniors appear unlikely.

As with other players on this list, he is unlikely to command a significant transfer fee but the Gunners will be hoping to move him on this summer.

Joe Willock

Unlike many of the players above, Joe Willock is a player who is directly wanted by another Premier League side and could fetch a transfer fee north of £20million.

Willock netted a remarkable eight goals in just 11 Premier League starts for Newcastle after joining on loan in January and scored in seven successive games - with the Magpies wanting him on a permanent deal.

That highlighted his talents and could have provided the springboard for him to transform his fortunes at Arsenal, but regular first-team football at the Gunners next season still seems unlikely.

The club now have a decision on whether to cash-in on the midfielder or give him a prominent squad role for the upcoming campaign.
