Erik ten Hag has already written his name in the Manchester United history books as the first manager in more than a decade to oversee the entire month of June without signing a player.
That could potentially be forgiven if United were coming into the off-season off the back of a glorious campaign littered with silverware, but the season just gone was actually the worst of their Premier League era. The Red Devils finished as low as sixth and just about scraped Europa League qualification on the final day.
And yet, no new arrivals to report as of yet. Four of United's 'big six' rivals in Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Spurs have all made additions to their squad while the Red Devils are left with the same crop as last term.
As a result, Ronaldo has been left frustrated and his thoughts appear to be that the club have lacked the kind of ambition necessary to tempt him into staying and seeing out the final year of his two-year contract.
Dutch full-back Tyrell Malacia is undergoing his United medical and is expected to be announced in the coming days, while Frenkie de Jong is likely to follow suit shortly after. United have also reached an agreement with Denmark international Christian Eriksen, but none of this looks to have forced Ronaldo into any kind of U-turn over his future.
The 37-year-old re-joined United last summer and sparked an absolute frenzy from the Old Trafford faithful, but things have not exactly played out as expected.

Question marks over whether Ronaldo is a help or a hindrance to the United dressing room have lingered throughout his first year back in the club's colours. Rumours of a fall-out with club captain Harry Maguire did little to help that speculation of a divided squad.
According to a recent report from The Times, some players within the Red Devils' team would actually feel both 'liberated' and like they were finally able to 'express themselves' if Ronaldo were to leave the club this summer.
That could be perceived as a damning indictment of either Ronaldo or the players in question who are perhaps intimidated by the former Real Madrid superstar's 'win at all costs' mentality. Individually, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner enjoyed a stellar season but Ten Hag may view him as an obstacle to future progress.
Despite some pleasantries explained before the two were set to link up for pre-season training, Ten Hag looks to be building a young side that is no longer so reliant on a brilliant but ageing forward nearing the twilight of his career.
