Spurs tempted to re-sign left-back Dennis Cirkin but face battle with Brentford

The 20-year-old left-back has been earning rave reviews at the Stadium of Light since joining the Black Cats from Spurs last year.

After failing to feature for Spurs despite fans calling for him to be given a chance, Cirkin dropped down to League One for regular first-team football.

And he appeared in 41 games in all competitions during the 2021/22 season where he helped the Wearside outfit win promotion to the Championship via the play-offs.

A hamstring injury has limited him to just ten matches this term, but he made his comeback in Saturday's 2-1 win over Wigan.

The England youth international laid on the assist for Elliot Embleton's equaliser before getting the winner in the 72nd minute in what was his first goal in senior football.

According to SunSport, his dazzling displays have led Spurs to weigh up a move to bring him back to north London.

The news outlet has also stated that Brentford are poised to rival Antonio Conte's side for Cirkin's signature.

It has been said that the Bees have identified the player as the long-term successor to Rico Henry should the 25-year-old depart.

Both clubs are now debating whether they look to launch a bid for the youngster in the winter transfer window.

And it has been alleged that Sunderland could be tempted to allow Cirkin to leave to make a quick profit on him.

Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray was full of praise for Cirkin following his winner against the Latics.

He said: "You'd have to say, the goal was amazing. It was a brave header, and he wasn't favourite to get that header at the back stick - he launched himself at it.

"I've had good chats with Dennis, he is a really emotional, deep, individual who is desperate to do well in football.

"He has the qualities I like in a footballer, the emotion he attaches to the game, and the game can take him to levels that he probably doesn't think he can match.

"I like a footballer that gets wrapped up in a match and if it is a technical, clever, game he can get involved.
