Simon Jordan admits Scotland 'pride' to leave host 'knocked out like Deontay Wilder'

Simon Jordan has admitted he was 'proud' to see Scotland overcome Israel 3-2 in their crucial world cup qualifier, stunning fellow talkSPORT host Jim White.

The Englishman and Scotsman have clashed repeatedly in a tale as old as time, with White often angered by Jordan's dismissive attitude towards the Scottish national team.

The pair clashed heads before Euro 2020 when Jordan said he wouldn't be supporting England's fellow Home Nations sides at the tournament and he 'couldn't care less' how they got on.

White called the standpoint 'disgusting' after Jordan had previously claimed England's U21 team could beat Scotland's senior side.

Jordan was even called out by musician Sir Rod Stewart after Scotland held England to a 0-0 draw during the summer, and later called the team 'poor' due to their early exit from the tournament.

However, Jordan has finally shown some respect to Steve Clarke's side after they secured a crucial and stunning 3-2 World Cup qualifying win over Israel.

Scotland twice found themselves a goal down, and even missed a penalty whilst losing 2-1 as Lyndon Dykes' horrendous spot kick was saved.

Inspired by the home crowd at Hampden Park, Scotland refused to give up, with Dykes converting an equaliser before Scott McTominay lifted the roof of the stadium with a stoppage time winner.

The result leaves Scotland second in their qualifying group for Qatar 2022, in the play-off spot with a four point cushion to Israel and Austria.

Jordan found time to tune in, and was just as impressed as anyone by a stunning performance from the Tartan Army.

"I watched the game and congratulations to Scotland," he said.

"The atmosphere inside the stadium was phenomenal, and the will and desire, I know Israel aren't a great side but irrespective of that you've got to beat what's in front of you.

"They overcame themselves as much as they overcame Israel, and it was compelling, and I'm really glad they didn't disallow that goal from Lyndon Dykes."

QPR striker Dykes sent a poor penalty straight at Israel's goalkeeper Ofir Marciano in first half stoppage time, missing the chance to level the match.

But 10 minutes later the striker recovered to convert an Andy Robertson cross, which was investigated by VAR for a high boot.

Dykes was cleared and the goal stood, with Jordan surprisingly hoping the decision would go Scotland's way.

"I was furious that he missed the penalty, because I was proud of them," he said.

"As much as I take the mickey out of them, when you see a team apply themselves in front of a fervent fan base, that's what international football should look like."

Jordan's talkSPORT co-host Jim White was unsurprisingly stunned by the admission.

"I say! Just like Deontay Wilder I am knocked out Mr. Jordan!" White said.
