Scott explains story behind iconic Euro 2022 moment and says she loved annoying Germany

Scott, England women's second most capped player, was an inspirational figure during the Lionesses home victory, often utilised as a late substitute by manager Sarina Wiegman.

The 35-year-old box-to-box midfielder was England's elder statesman, and seen as a calming presence during her cameos, but one in particular was iconic for rather amusing reasons.

After an altercation with Germany's Sydney Lohmann, the camera directed straight to Scott who blasted her opponent with some abuse.

Memes, GIFs and all forms of social media content was instantly born out of Scott's iconic angry reaction, with amateur lip readers suggesting that Lohmann was called a 'f****** p****'.

Scott, though, told talkSPORT she actually hates swearing, and was only responding to her opponent who did it first.

She recalled: "Keira Walsh said I came on the pitch and was like 'everyone calm down, keep your head, we've got a job to do for extra time' and then obviously that went viral, me swearing at her.

"I do apologise for the swearing, I actually hate swearing away from football but once I cross over that white line I feel like I have to be angry and emotional to get my performance out of me.

"She did swear at me first but the camera was the other way but I do apologise."

Scott was also asked about the needle between the two sides during the final, and revealed she enjoyed being able to take the game to the Germans.

"I've been on the end of so many games where people time waste, game manage," she said. "It's so annoying so I'm so glad that we actually got to do that to them."
