After an utterly forgettable 86 minutes, Lyndon Dykes turned home a cross to send the Tartan Army wild.
After their last-gasp heroics in the 3-2 victory over Israel, Steve Clarke's men are now just one victory away from guaranteeing second place in their group.
With Moldova and Denmark in their closing two matches, many will be confident of securing the points against the former, but Scotland made hard work of the Faroe Islands on Tuesday night.
The hosts arguably had the better of the chances in the first-half and entertained serious hopes of a result which would've seriously damaged Scotland's World Cup hopes.
But the Scots won't care. Reactiong on commentary for talkSPORT 2, former Scotland international Chris Iwelumo said: "Massive win, massive!
"After that result against Israel, it was a difficult one. I thought the Faroes were excellent without the ball, so organised.
"A little bit of quality from the wide areas and Dykes deserves everything he gets. Working so hard off the ball, feeding off scraps tonight.
"He got a little bit of luck but he made it himself. He made that run, he got across his man and gambled.
"Fantastic result. I'm delighted for Clarke and I'm delighted for the squad.
"It's going to be an exciting one in Moldova."
