Rooney "finds it strange" question isn't asked about Man City's 2012 title win

Wayne Rooney has claimed that Queens Park Rangers' shot-stopper Paddy Kenny "should have done better" with the goals that eventually won Manchester City the Premier League in 2012.

The Manchester United legend is still seemingly sore from the way their 'noisy neighbours' and local rivals City secured their first ever Premier League title on an afternoon that saw United look set to win the league until the 93rd minute goal from Sergio Aguero sparked wild celebrations on the terraces of the Etihad.

The Red Devils were playing away against Sunderland at the same time, with Rooney's goal enough to separate United from the Black Cats and leave their fate in the hands of both City and QPR - who were still locked at 2-2 deep into second-half stoppage time.

Reflecting on the moment on the tenth anniversary of City's first Premier League title, Rooney also revealed he remains confused to this day over why QPR kicked the ball straight back to their hosts from kick-off after Edin Dzeko's header on that memorable afternoon in Manchester.

"Paddy Kenny should have done better for a couple of the goals," United and England's record goal-scorer claimed to The Sun. "City get the second goal and QPR kick it straight back to them and that's never been questioned - I find that strange.

"Djibril Cisse celebrating after the game with the City players, but yeah listen it's a historic moment in the Premier League so I'm sure that - if you are not involved as a Manchester United player, that's probably one of the greatest moments in the league."

The anniversary of the goal and subsequent title win has of course been heavily celebrated by City, who have unveiled a statue of the goal-scorer outside the entrance to the East Stand of the Etihad. Aguero could barely contain his delight at the official unveiling.

"Truthfully, it is a very beautiful thing for me, to see myself 10 years ago is very moving," the Argentine admitted. "In those 10 years, I was able to win a lot of trophies and was able to help the Club become one of the most important in the world.

"I am very grateful to the Club for making this statue in recognition of my football career in Manchester. It is something very special." Since that legendary day at the Etihad, Aguero helped the club to a further four league titles - one under Manuel Pellegrini and three under Pep Guardiola.
