Richarlison sets record with hat-trick as Brazil beat Germany at Tokyo 2020

Richarlison has become the first Premier League player in history to bag an Olympics hat-trick.

The Everton star netted a 23 minute treble as Brazil saw off Germany in Tokyo.

Richarlison opened his account in the seventh minute before rounding off his achievement on the half hour mark.

Brazil were 3-0 up at half-time before the Germans staged a second-half fight back, bringing it back to 3-2.

Paulinho wrapped up the contest in injury-time with a long range strike to seal a 4-2 victory.

Richarlison is part of a well stocked Brazil side that has their sights set on the gold medal in Japan.

Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli is also in the squad whilst veteran right-back Dani Alves has also been selected.

The 24-year-old's involvement in the Olympics could see him miss Everton's entire pre-season as well as their Premier League opener.

The forward has been linked with a switch to Real Madrid this summer. Former boss Carlo Ancelotti left Goodison Park to take up the reigns at Los Blancos for a second time and is eyeing the Brazilian.

But new Toffees coach Rafa Benitez believes the club's willingness to let Richarlison compete in Tokyo will be rewarded.

"I was in contact with him, he had the Olympic Games in the back of his head, we needed to sort out his situation and he is fine," he told the club's official website.

"He is happy because he can go there… and he knows he has to give us something back because we were supporting him.

"That [not being involved at the start of the season] could be something we can consider not great in the beginning but will be a massive boost for us in the rest of the season because he will try to deliver."

Richarlison scored 13 times for Everton last term, taking his tally for the club to 42 during his three seasons.

He remains a crucial part of the club's plans as owner Farhad Moshiri continues to invest resources.

The Merseyside club have added Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray to their ranks recently.
