The Forest goalkeeper was involved in a heavy collision with Derby forward Tom Lawrence, which left him in a heap and in need of treatment mid-way through the Championship clash.
The incident occurred in the final minutes of the first half with the score level at the time and, amazingly, Samba was able to continue.
Thankfully, the game came to a halt for the half-time break and it gave the Nottingham Forest medical team some more time to patch the Congolese glovesman.
Clearly in a lot of pain, Samba was seen clutching his head as he headed towards the tunnel
After the break, he emerged with a bandage on his head and resumed in goal.
Goals from club captain Lewis Grabban and Brentford transfer target Brennan Johnson gave Forest a healthy lead against the in-trouble Rams.
They were made to sweat when Lawrence converted a penalty for the visitors late on which didn't amass to anything more than just a consolation goal.
Derby's fate was then sealed when former West Ham midfielder Ravel Morrison was sent off for high, late challenge on Philip Zinckernagel.
The result is a damming blow for Derby boss Rooney.
His side remain eight points from safety and have played a game more than Reading who are just above the relegation zone.
Off the pitch though, things appear to be getting brighter following their proposed £28million takeover from The Binnies, founders of private investment firm Carlisle Capital.
