Nike's new advert for World Cup features stars of the past, present and future

The sporting giants are known for producing some top quality adverts ahead of big tournaments, and they have come back with a bang this year for their latest video.

Nike's advert ahead of the World Cup in Qatar, which was released on their YouTube channel, is set in a secret lab in the Swiss city of Geneva.

Scientists are hoping to create the 'Footballverse' in order to put some of the sport's best players from past and present up against each other.

France star Kylian Mbappe and a youthful-looking Brazil legend Ronaldinho (thanks to some genius CGI) are soon brought together, with the duo battling it out to settle a debate amongst the scientists between the two players.

They are then joined by (a not so fat) Ronaldo, the former Barcelona striker, and Cristiano Ronaldo, the man who will be hoping to guide Portugal to success in Qatar.

Edgar Davids also makes an appearance as one of football's past stars, but there are many from the modern game who show off their skills throughout.

Premier League giants Virgil van Dijk and Kevin De Bruyne soon enter the frame, as well as England's Phil Foden as Nike proved they didn't hold back on their casting for the advert - with even Foden's nan (presumably) getting a cameo.

Whilst the upcoming World Cup is the men's version of the tournament, some of the stars from the women's game also featured in the masterpiece.

Alex Morgan, Leah Williamson, Carli Lloyd and Sam Kerr are all involved in a hectic game of football inside the fictional lab.

The advert ends with one of the scientists sending them all into the future, with the next crop of stars walking up to the camera as Nike say: "You're up."

It's a genius video with brilliant use of CGI to bring some of football's most iconic players back to their heyday.

But we're still not sure it'll beat Eric Cantona swinging a cane around while football's top stars battle it out with a shiny silver ball in a cage football tournament.

Qatar will kick off the World Cup in the tournament opener against Ecuador on Sunday, with fans across the globe now ready for four weeks of world-class football and entertainment.
