Mexico sweep Nigeria aside in comfortable win ahead of Gold Cup

Mexico ran out emphatic 4-0 winners against a poor Nigeria side at the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles. The match was a warm-up for the upcoming Gold Cup, with the highlight of the night being the debut goal and performance of Rogelio Fuentes Mori.

Gerardo Martino's side were fast out of the traps, taking the lead in the first minute after Hector Herrera got on the end of a corner to put his side ahead.

The Nigerians had barely gotten over the first goal when the second came, with Hirving Lozano providing for Rogelio Funes Mori to score in what was a dream start for the forward in a Mexico shirt.

The game died down after that and Mexico goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera was practically a spectator for long periods as Nigeria failed to create anything going forward.

Mexico started to pressure more before half time, however, and found the third after the break with Herrera latching onto Lozano's saved effort to grab his second of the night.

Both coaches made changes, but it was Martino's substitutions that made the biggest impact as Jonathan Dos Santos came off the bench to put the game to bed after getting on the end of Erick Gutierrez's cross.

This result brings an end to Mexico's Gold Cup preparations and they now look to their first match of the competition on July 10, which will be against the winner of Trinidad and Tobago vs French Guiana.
