Man United target Weghorst is a sensation in Turkey like ex-Chelsea and Everton men

talksport.com, 11 January 2023, 14:45
The Turkish Super Lig has become a safe haven for Premier League stars to reinvent themselves as Manchester United-bound Wout Weghorst can confirm.

A number of ex-English top-flight forwards are banging in goals for fun in Turkey this season having failed to show their talents here.

Former Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and West Ham players all find themselves at the top of the scoring charts in Turkey.

But unfortunately, Dele Alli is not one of them, with the Everton loanee continuing to struggle.

The Tottenham hero has scored just once in the league this term, with it claimed Besiktas are considering ending his loan spell prematurely.

While the England international is enduring a nightmare time, the same can't be said for Enner Valencia, Wout Weghorst and Fabio Borini.

The trio have scored an impressive 31 goals between them this term.

And they aren't the only ones having a blast by the Bosphorus.

Enner Valencia

The Ecuadorian cost West Ham £12million when they bought him in 2014, before he joined Everton on loan for the 2016/17 season.

During his time at both clubs, he mustered just 11 Premier League goals.

This season alone, he has fired in 13 times in the Super Lig with the Fenerbahce star the top scorer in Turkey.

He even showed his class at the World Cup in Qatar where he scored three goals in the group stages.

Mbaye Diagne

The 31-year-old joined West Brom on loan for the second half of the 2020/21 season, where he scored just three goals as he failed to help the Baggies avoid relegation.

Now at Fatih Karagumruk, the Senegalese striker has banged in ten goals in 17 matches, with only Valencia scoring more.

Fabio Borini

A product of Chelsea's academy, the Italian also featured in the Premier League for Liverpool and Sunderland.

Across six seasons in the Prem, the 31-year-old found the back of the net on just 14 occasions.

And he is on course to match that figure this campaign having scored nine goals for Fatik where he has forged a formidable partnership alongside Diagne.

Wout Weghorst

The Dutchman was brought in by Burnley in last year's winter transfer window to help them beat the drop, but after scoring just twice, the Clarets went sent back to the Championship.

And he failed to stick around, where he was sent on loan to Besiktas, with the 30-year-old scoring eight goals in 16 outings.

His great form - coupled by his displays at the World Cup - has seen him become a target for Manchester United in January.

talkSPORT recently revealed how the ex-Wolfsburg star is keen to make the move to Old Trafford this month.

Michy Batshuayi

Another former Blues forward, the Belgian won the Premier League under Antonio Conte in the 2016/17 season.

But he never established himself as a first team regular, resulting in him having two separate loan spells at Crystal Palace.

Five seasons in England yielded just 15 top-flight goals, with Batshuayi joining Fenerbahce on a permanent deal last summer.

And it has proved to be a great move with the 29-year-old scoring eight goals in just 11 games.

Bafetimbi Gomis

The 37-year-old arrived at Swansea in 2014 with a big reputation after establishing himself as a prolific goalscorer in France at Saint-Etienne and Lyon.

But he failed to show his class with the Swans, bagging 13 goals across his two years in Wales.

The English league proved to be too difficult for the veteran centre-forward, where he has since starred at Galatasaray.

He has scored seven goals in 13 matches so far, where he is looking to win his second Super Lig title.

Mame Biram Diouf

The 35-year-old, who scored once for United in five Premier League games in the 2009/10 season, is best known for his six-year spell at Stoke.

Signed from German side Hannover, an impressive first campaign saw him score 11 times.

But the goals soon dried up, resulting in the Potters being relegated.

He then joined Turkish outfit Hatayspor, before signing for Konyaspor on a one-year deal last summer.

And they may be thinking of handing him fresh terms with Diouf finding the back of the net on seven occasions.
