Malacia sends message after Man Utd debut in Liverpool thrashing

Tyrell Malacia has sent a message to Erik ten Hag and his Manchester United team-mates after making his non-competitive debut for the club.

Malacia was a half-time substitute in the 4-0 thrashing of Liverpool on Tuesday as the Red Devils cruised to victory over their arch rivals. The Dutch left-back joined the club a week ago from Feyenoord for around £13m.

Malacia is expected to provide back-up to Luke Shaw, with the future of Alex Telles uncertain. And the 22-year-old was made to wait for his first appearance in a United shirt, coming on at half-time to replace the Englishman.

Malacia put in a solid shift, with Telles out of position alongside him in the middle, with the newbie showing plenty of defensive awareness to keep the likes of Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez at bay. It seems that while he clearly has defensive prowess, he is ready to bring an attacking edge to the game too.

Speaking to MUTV at full-time, he said: "I'm very happy, it feels amazing to be here and wearing this shirt. It was difficult because the weather is very hot, but we made it.

"I hope to bring some good defending, bring assists and some energy into the team. It's a dream for me to play in the Premier League, and now I'm here."

New United boss Ten Hag was understandably thrilled with his side's performance on their first outing of pre-season. He said: "I am satisfied today. It was a team with a great sprit and we know we are just getting started.

"We made some mistakes in the press, we conceded some chances, but we created a lot. We have to work hard to cut out the mistakes but of course we are happy.

"I know we have good players. We have started to build a team and I am happy with the first game. It will take a lot of time. I have seen a lot of mistakes.

"Liverpool played three teams, they were not at their strongest. We will not overestimate this result. But still, I have seen some really good things. A lot of speed and creativity up front."
