Kelly surprised by hero Zamora who confesses he nearly missed England winner

Lionesses hero Chloe Kelly was introduced to her football icon Bobby Zamora on Tuesday morning, two days after scoring England's winner in the Euro 2022 final.

The Manchester City forward, 24, found the net to give Sarina Wiegman's side a 2-1 win against Germany at Wembley and their first major honour in women's football. The game went to extra-time after Germany's Lina Magull cancelled out Ella Toone's opener.

Kelly described her goal as her "Zamora moment" - alluding to his winner for QPR in the 2014 Championship play-off final at Wembley. The former England international's strike confirmed QPR's promotion to the Premier League, a feat they haven't achieved since.

Kelly was asked on Good Morning Britain why she called England's winner her "Zamora moment", to which she explained: "I was at Wembley for the promotion for QPR when Bobby Zamora scored in the last few minutes of the game.

"My family are massive QPR fans, so to be there in that moment in an absolutely wild Wembley, I said to them that day: 'Imagine there's a Bobby Zamora moment [for me].'"

On her winner, Kelly added: "That probably hasn't sunk in yet. I feel like I'm absolutely buzzing still, it's not settled in that we're European champions."

At that point, GMB presenter Richard Madeley told Kelly they had a surprise for her. Zamora, who represented the likes of West Ham, Tottenham and Fulham during his career, was introduced on screen via a video link and paid tribute to England's newest legend.

"I'm touched to have you speak my name on such an amazing moment," Zamora told Kelly. "You, yourself, have created the greatest English football female moment ever. You are an absolute hero, a national hero and you should be so proud of yourself."

Zamora, now 41, enjoyed a successful career in the Premier League, scoring 47 goals and providing 34 assists in 252 appearances. He won two senior caps for England and helped Fulham reach the final of the Europa League during the 2009/10 campaign.

Zamora was travelling while the final was on and struggled to watch it. He managed to catch the final few moments by watching it over someone's shoulder. "I couldn't get it up on my phone, so I ended up man-marking a lady in the queue!" Zamora joked.

"[I was] looking over her shoulder - I wouldn't have been surprised if she'd had turned around and given me a slap! But I managed to watch the last couple of minutes. It was unbelievable, really, and so proud of the England Women's team and Chloe - you are a national hero now, congratulations."

Kelly was delighted to meet her hero for the first time. "As a QPR fan, you just dream of moments like this," she added. "To be at Wembley that day was special, but to now experience it myself is amazing."
