Jose Mourinho visits Diego Maradona mural and lays flowers before Napoli vs Roma

The Giallorossi manager laid flowers as a tribute to his old friend on Sunday, prior to his side's Serie A clash against the team for who Maradona will forever be an icon.

El Dios played for Napoli between 1984 and 1991.

During his time in southern Italy, he won two Serie A titles and the UEFA Cup, as well as the Coppa Italia.

To this day, these are the only two league titles Napoli have ever won, and they have not emerged victorious in any other notable European competition either.

As a result, Maradona is a hero in Naples and his death in 2020 at the age of 60 was mourned equally strongly in the city as in his homeland of Argentina.

Now, 18 months on, there is a mural of the legend which Mourinho visited on Sunday.

Passers by stood and watched, respectfully not bothering the Roma boss who was escorted by police as he laid flowers for his old friend.

Mourinho also took a brief moment to look around at the other tributes that had been left before departing.

Roma posted the video to their social media pages, allowing fans around the world to view this poignant scene.
