Will Ferrell chugged beer and Gareth Bale was drenched in Heineken as LAFC celebrated winning their first-ever MLS Cup on Saturday. The Welsh superstar came off the bench to score a dramatic late equaliser to force a penalty shoot-out.
LAFC, who are part-owned by a consortium of A-list celebrities including Ferrell, Magic Johnson, Tony Robbins and Mia Hamm-Garciaparra, won the MLS Cup in the most dramatic fashion on Saturday night.
Playing in front of their home fans against the Philadelphia Union, LAFC twice squandered the lead in normal time before a dramatic extra time saw both teams score after the 120th minute. In the end it was a perfect penalty shoot-out for LAFC, who didn't allow Philadelphia to score as they won 3-0 to take home the trophy, which was quickly used as a prop.
Ferrell was filmed drinking beer out of the trophy as the team and owners celebrated on the pitch, and the celebrations continued into the dressing room. The 'Elf' actor then took to social media to post a picture of himself celebrating with Bale in the dressing room.
The celebrations didn't stop there, however, as Bale was drenched in beer while conducting his post-match press conference. His team-mates crept up behind him before pouring cans of Heineken over his head, leaving him in hysterics.
NBA legend Johnson was also on hand, watching the game with music superstar Justin Bieber, and took to social media afterwards to praise the team. He wrote: "I want to share with the world Cookie and I are champions again!! Wowwww, what a game! I'm so proud of our players, MVP John McCarthy, Head Coach Steve Cherundolo and his entire staff, my business partners and fellow owners, and the entire organization."
Giorgio Chiellini, who joined mid-season after leaving Juventus, posted a snap on the pitch with his family, captioning it: "Epic first time together. Let's go LA, today is OUR day".
Among LAFC's big name players is former Barcelona wonderkid Cristian Tello, who joined from Real Betis in the middle of the season along with Chiellini and Bale.
The former Spain international posted a series of pictures to his official Instagram account, including a video of what seemed to be the team's official afterparty. Tello, dressed all in black, was cuddling the MLS Cup trophy as he swayed by himself on the dance floor while Mexican music played in the background.
