Aston Villa goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has broken her silence after being omitted from Sarina Wiegman's England squad for the friendlies against Japan and Norway, which will take place in Spain later this month.
The European Championship winner has not featured for Aston Villa since September 25th with manager, Carla Ward, choosing to leave the stopper at home for their clash at Chelsea for "the best interests of the team".
Despite this, Hampton travelled to Kingsmeadow to watch her team get beaten 3-1 by the current Women's Super League holders and posted her support from the stands on Instagram in contradiction of Ward's instructions.
After Wiegman announced her 25-player squad and confirmed that she hadn't been in contact with the 21-year-old since first dropping her in September, Hampton took to social media.
Her post read: 'I've been suffering with an ongoing medical issue for a while and it's time to address it properly this week with a small procedure.
'I'll be out for a few weeks now as I recover with the support of everyone at the club. My priority now is to return to fitness, get back on the pitch and give my all for the team. UTV!'
Earlier in the day, Wiegman said: "It's the same reason why I said in September, nothing has changed.
"It's something personal that I don't want to comment on. The door is always open, so when players perform, they have a chance to make the squad."
