The 18-year-old suffered a moment of horror in Liverpool's 3-0 win against Leeds United and he is expected to be out for a number of months.
It was a massive blow for the youngster who had started the previous two matches prior to the game against Leeds.
Speaking to talkSPORT Breakfast, former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant said: "A massive blow for Jurgen you know, he started every game this season and you don't start if you're not a great player and he's shown that.
"The worst thing is, he was just only going to get better, it's his third game, he was finding his feet, he didn't want to really do to much and be expressive enough and how he could have gone on to another level once he got comfortable.
"It's such a sad injury, bad timing and just really unlucky for the lad."
What made matters worse was the fact that he was minutes if not seconds away from being substituted for Jordan Henderson.
It's undoubtedly a massive blow for the youngster, but given his age, an injury such as this will only make him stronger.
Now he must rebuild himself from scratch and hope that he can continue to show the promise that saw him in Jurgen Klopp's starting eleven.
Even after suffering such a blow, the youngster remains in high spirits and took social media to show his support for Leeds defender Pascal Strujk.
The 22-year-old will have to serve the three match ban after the club's appeal to overturn the decision was rejected.
"Sorry about this Pascal." He said on Instagram. "I think it's wrong! But it'll soon blow over brother and you'll be back in no time smashing it again. Keep positive."
