However, the Italian cut a resigned figure after his side were convincingly beaten by former club Chelsea.
Conte's two-year spell at Stamford Bridge came to an frosty end but now all the dust has settled he can look back on taking Chelsea from a tenth-placed finish to Premier League champions as well as an FA Cup triumph with great fondness.
And although he hasn't burnt any bridges at Spurs yet, his post-match comments revealed a fear in him that there may not be anything for him to look back on at all whenever his time in north London comes to a close.
After Spurs' humiliating Conference League defeat to Mura, Conte effectively admitted he underestimated the size of the task he has to get Spurs back competing at the top.
He's certainly under no illusions now.
Conte told Sky Sports: "In this moment the gap with the other teams like Chelsea is a really, really important gap.
"I'm proud of the effort of my players. We tried to do everything but sometimes when you try to do everything it's not enough, especially when you play a team like this. The starting XI has strong players and on the bench.
"Now there is a big difference between us and top teams."
There would've been huge anticipation among Spurs fans ahead of Conte's first transfer window in charge.
But with just over a week until the window shuts Conte's still waiting for his first addition, while the futures of the likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli still haven't been resolved.
Conte warns there's a long road lasting 'many years' before Spurs get to the level of Chelsea. However, it's clear Conte fears the club's top brass aren't willing to start the journey.
He added: "The club knows very well what I think and the time that we need to close this gap because one transfer window cannot close the gap.
"Over the last five years this gap has become very, very big. It's not simple to find a solution in this short time.
"If we think we can solve the situation in the transfer window… it's not the reality. You need many years but for sure you have to start. There is a point to start because I feel in the last few years the level of the squad decreased instead of improving."
Outraged Spurs fan Bilal can't see the team he loves going on that road and called for owner Joe Lewis and chairman Daniel Levy to go.
He told talkSPORT: "We've got these deadweight players, bandwagon players, why are they not being offloaded yet? We've got three or four players like Sanchez and Dier.
"We don't need Ben Davies, why is he still at Tottenham Hotspur? Davinson Sanchez is shocking. I've had enough of watching Spurs play with my eyes closed.
"Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy - they need to get out of there, honestly."
But if things don't happen at Spurs before deadline day, it may be Conte who decides to pick up his coat before too long.
