Bundesliga top 5s in 2019/20: goals, assists, clean sheets and more

bundesliga.com, 1 July 2020, 15:25

Bayern Munich may have topped the table, while Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Müller claimed the honours of top scorer and provider respectively, but who else finished the 2019/20 Bundesliga campaign top of some other stats?

bundesliga.com takes you through everything from shots created to distance covered to pass completion…

Goals

Lewandowski 's 34-goal haul was the fourth-highest in the history of the Bundesliga and saw him claim a fifth Torjägerkanone after finishing six strikes clear of Timo Werner. Despite the fact Fortuna Düsseldorf were relegated, Rouwen Hennings still made it into the top five with 15 goals.

1. Robert Lewandowski - 34

2. Timo Werner - 28

3. Jadon Sancho - 17

4. Wout Weghorst - 16

5. Rouwen Hennings - 15

Assists

Müller set a new Bundesliga record with his 21 assists in 2019/20, surpassing the previous best by Kevin De Bruyne in 2014/15 for Wolfsburg. Jadon Sancho again features in the top five here, showing what an impressive campaign the Borussia Dortmund forward enjoyed. Christopher Nkunku also shone in his maiden Bundesliga season for RB Leipzig, including four assists in one game against Schalke.

1. Thomas Müller - 21

2. Jadon Sancho - 16

3. Thorgan Hazard - 13

3. Christopher Nkunku - 13

5. Filip Kostic - 11

Shots

There's no surprise to see that top scorer Lewandowski also had the most shots in the league. There are, though, two differences in this top five to that of the goalscorers, with Serge Gnabry and Filip Kostic joining Lewandowski, Werner and Wout Weghorst in place of Sancho and Hennings.

1. Robert Lewandowski - 140

2. Timo Werner - 123

3. Serge Gnabry - 100

4. Wout Weghorst - 88

5. Filip Kostic - 86

Shots created

Perhaps more of a surprise is the fact that Kostic had a hand in more shots this season (196) than any other player. He created a league-best 110, ahead of Freiburg left-back Christian Günter. Union Berlin 's set-piece specialist Christopher Trimmel is joint-fourth with assist king Müller, just one teed-up shot behind Joshua Kimmich.

1. Filip Kostic - 110

2. Christian Günter - 107

3. Joshua Kimmich - 97

4. Christopher Trimmel - 96

4. Thomas Müller - 96

Distance covered

Vladimir Darida may have twice broken the record for distance covered in a single game, but the fact the Hertha Berlin midfielder made just 28 appearances means he finishes just 25th in the overall standings. Unsurprisingly, the top five consists solely of midfielders, with Joshua Kimmich finishing well clear in this race, averaging 7.9 miles (12 km) per game.

1. Joshua Kimmich - 247 miles (398 km)

2. Davy Klaassen - 239 miles (385 km)

3. Ellyes Skhiri - 233 miles (375 km)

4. Maximilian Eggestein - 232 miles (373 km)

5. Sebastian Vasiliadis - 229 miles (368 km)

Top speed

The Bundesliga speed record was broken a number of times this season, but rather remarkably, four of the fastest five sprints came after the coronavirus break. The fastest speed ever clocked in the league (since data collection began in 2011/12) was by Roadrunner Alphonso Davies the day Bayern wrapped up the title at Werder Bremen (22.69 mph), fractionally quicker than Achraf Hakimi on Matchday 20 against Union (22.67 mph).

1. Alphonso Davies - 22.69 mph (36.51 km/h)

2. Achraf Hakimi - 22.67 mph (36.49 km/h)

3. Leon Bailey - 22.59 mph (36.35 km/h)

4. Moussa Diaby - 22.39 mph (36.04 km/h)

5. Rabbi Matondo - 22.35 mph (35.97 km/h)

Attacking dribbles

Amine Harit proved himself a key cog in Schalke 's attack and perhaps could have helped prevent the team's 16-match winless end to the season if not for an injury suffered just after the league restarted. Despite missing nine games, no player attempted as many attacking dribbles as the Morocco international, who came out on top in 51 per cent of them.

1. Amine Harit - 190

2. Filip Kostic - 186

3. Achraf Hakimi - 182

4. Jadon Sancho - 181

5. Marco Richter - 178

Pass completion

Axel Witsel has made a real difference to Dortmund, adding grit but also crisp passing to their game. The Belgian ended the campaign as the league's most accurate passer among those who played at least two thirds of the total possible minutes. Bayer Leverkusen 's Sven Bender was third after playing the second-most passes behind Kimmich (2,432 - 91.7 per cent completion).

1. Axel Witsel - 95.34% (1,636/1,716)

2. Nico Elvedi - 94.98% (1,514/1,594)

3. Sven Bender - 94.80% (2,261/2,385)

4. Andre Hoffmann - 92.93% (1,143/1,230)

5. Jonathan Tah - 92.66% - (1,818/1,962)

Crosses from open play

As he did last season, Kostic again delivered the most crosses from open play - almost twice as many as the next best - as he set up seven goals. That was a league best with Müller, although the Bayern forward did so with half as many attempts. Düsseldorf's Matthias Zimmermann found a teammate with 17 per cent of his crosses (similar to Kostic), but none of his led to a goal.

1. Filip Kostic - 209

2. Christian Günter - 115

3. Matthias Zimmermann - 107

4. Thomas Müller - 104

5. Pavel Kaderabek - 94

Shots saved

It was a great season for Borussia Mönchengladbach and goalkeeper Yann Sommer as the Foals secured a first UEFA Champions League campaign since 2016/17. Despite the fact Manuel Neuer registered the most clean sheets (15), the Swiss goalkeeper topped the charts for both the number of shots saved and save percentage among those who played at least two third of the possible minutes over the season.

1. Yann Sommer - 75.90% (126/166)

2. Alexander Schwolow - 73.77% (90/122)

3. Manuel Neuer - 73.04% (84/115)

4. Peter Gulacsi - 73.02% (92/162)

5. Rune Jarstein - 69.54% (105/151)

Watch: Sommer and the Bundesliga's best goalkeepers under the tactical microscope

Clean sheets

1. Manuel Neuer - 15

2. Roman Bürki - 12

3. Peter Gulacsi - 10

3. Lukas Hradecky - 10

5. Rune Jarstein - 9
